FINE-HOLE MACHINING

By utilizing the latest technology, which is a staple for Ram Precision, we have shortened our delivery time from 3 to 4 weeks for this part to 1 week. We were unhappy with the results we were getting from the supplier who initially burned these holes for us due to cost, turnaround time, and quality, so we made the decision to do it ourselves, and it has delivered great results for our customers and Ram Precision

In the example above, we are burning a .012" diameter hole with a Copper electrode that has an outside diameter of .011" and an inside diameter of .008", only 2 times bigger than a human hair! The electrode has 100% wear, and we are able to acheive this with a Makino Edge2 EDM CNC with the fine hole option, the only one of its kind in North America. We are able to maintain an accuracy within .0002". Amazing technology, Amazing results. The material is CPM 10, one of the toughest materials on the market, but that is what the customer required, so we made it happen for them. On this particular piece, we are burning over 3600 holes, and by using the automated technology, we can have all the holes done in 2 days. We also build a larger version of this part that has over 6000 fine holes, so we are able to scale this up to many applications.
